Economia Social e Solidária
A Economia Social e Solidária (ESS) é um movimento que pretende promover a mudança em todo o sistema social e
económico, defendendo um paradigma de desenvolvimento diferente, assente nos valores e princípios da economia
solidária: Direitos Humanos, Democracia, Solidariedade, Inclusão, Diversidade, Desenvolvimento Sustentável, Igualdade,
Equidade e Justiça para todos e todas. É assumida como uma dinâmica de reciprocidade e solidariedade que concilia os
interesses individuais com os coletivos.

A Economia Social e a Economia Solidária têm várias definições, contudo o seu objetivo final é satisfazer as necessidades dos indivíduos e das comunidades em todo o mundo. Tendo como eixo a mudança no pensamento dominante capaz de transformar as atuais relações económicas numa abordagem baseada na cooperação, solidariedade e sustentabilidade, a ESS promove a mudança em todo o sistema social e económico.
Na promoção da ESS destacamos cinco características chave:

3- Transparente
4- Justa
5- Cooperativa
As actividades promovidas através da ESS criam emprego e rendimento. São uma resposta clara a alguns dos principais desafios da sociedade. Com as pessoas no princípio da sua política é um instrumento de coesão social e de luta contra a pobreza. Respeita e valoriza a diversidade ambiental e promove um mundo mais justo e mais digno. Em Portugal, temos já um conjunto sólido de atores da ESS – cooperativas, associações de desenvolvimento local, banca ética, mutualidades, lojas de comércio justo entre outros – que são um dos motores da mudança social e económica.

A Economia Social e Solidária coloca as pessoas e o ambiente em primeiro lugar, ao invés do dinheiro e do lucro. Assim através da ESS é possível promover uma vida digna para todos e todas a uma escala local, nacional e mundial; uma vida em que as pessoas tem acesso a bens, recursos e serviços. A ESS promove também um comportamento mais justo em relação ao consumo: fomenta trocas, a reutilização, reparação, compras justas do ponto de vista social, ambiental e económico.
